Break 5 is a free game. These are the house rules that keep it fair for everyone who plays.

Playing fair

• One account per person. Sign up once, with an email address you control. Do not create or use a second account, whether your own or someone else's.
• Solve it yourself, on the clock. The daily puzzle is a race against the clock from the moment the words appear. Looking up the ladder first, whether on another account, another device, as a guest, from someone who has already finished, or with a solver, and then playing it for a time is cheating.
• No automation. Scripts, bots, browser extensions or anything else that plays for you, probes our dictionary, or talks to the game other than through the page itself are not allowed.
• Keep today's puzzle to yourself until the day is over. Sharing the words or the ladder with someone who has not played yet spoils it for them and for the leaderboard.
• Be decent. Display names and league names must not be offensive or impersonate anyone.

What we may do

We measure every finish on our server and look at timing, devices, connections and history. If a result looks like it broke these rules, we may hold it back for review, remove it from leaderboards and leagues, or strike it from your record, without notice. We may also suspend or delete an account, and any others we believe belong to the same person, and we may decline to reinstate them. These are judgement calls made by a small team; we will try to get them right, and if you think we have got one wrong, email hello@break5.co.uk and we will take another look. Our decision is final.

The service

• Break 5 is provided as is, for fun. We do our best to keep it up and the puzzles correct, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error free, and we may change, pause or stop it at any time.
• You are responsible for the account you create and for keeping your sign-in email secure.
• Your data is handled as described in our privacy policy.

Changes

We may update these terms as the game grows. The version on this page is the current one; continuing to play after a change means you accept it. Break 5 is run from the United Kingdom and these terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
